Description:
Where do I begin? I’ll start with the leader of this aggregation--John Bunch. John is one of the greatest jazz pianists the instrument has ever known. He is a charter member of the Elegant Swing and Harmonic Richness School of Jazz, where he and Hank Jones graduated Summa Cum Laude. I have played with John Bunch around the globe for almost forty years and I know of what I speak. Next there is the irrepressible Frank Vignola on guitar. Frank expresses more guitar history in one jazz chorus than most of us even know about. Then we come to John Webber on the bass. John has firmly established himself among the top rank of New York bassists. The great Frank Wess plays flute on six tracks of this Irving Berlin tribute. Jazz listeners cannot help but hear Basie’s band every time Frank picks up the flute. From the album notes by Jay Leonhart, celebrated bassist who often work with John Bunch in the New York Swing Trio.
